Martin Luther King Jr.

Hello Everyone! Do you know who Martin Luther King Jr. is? You probably have read about him or have learned about him in school? Did you know today is his birthday? That is why it is a public holiday this coming Monday! But why do we celebrate him? We celebrate him because he made a difference in our world. Here is a bit of info:

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a civil rights leader in the 1950s and 1960s. He fought for blacks and whites to be united. He didn’t agree with the Jim Crow laws. A quote from his “I Have a Dream” speech states, “I have a dream that one day little black boys and girls will be holding hands with little white boys and girls.” This means that there would be no segregation and black and white children will be unanimous. He said this with total power and confidence, which made more white people feel guilty, and see how badly black people were treated. Furthermore, Dr. King was held in jail several times, but to him, it didn’t mean it was time to stop. He had perseverance. He wanted to make the world a better place. He knew this was not right. Sadly, at the age of 39, John Earl Ray murdered Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on April 4, 1968. Through King’s short life, he taught us and made an immense difference in the world.
